Product Overview

Astragaloside IV is an organic compound with the chemical formula C41H68O14, appearing as a white crystalline powder. It is extracted from the traditional Chinese medicine astragalus. The main active components of astragalus are astragalus polysaccharides, astragalus saponins, and isoflavones. Astragaloside IV is used as a standard for evaluating the quality of astragalus. Pharmacological studies show that astragalus enhances immune function, has anti-aging and anti-fatigue properties. Astragaloside IV is known for improving cardiovascular and pulmonary functions, protecting the liver, preventing liver glycogen reduction, inducing interferon production, and boosting immune function and energy levels.

Astragaloside IV Production Process

  1. Traditional Water Extraction Method:
  2. Start with water extraction followed by alcohol precipitation to remove the majority of astragalus polysaccharides. Then treat with an alkaline solution, adjust to neutral, extract sequentially with n-butanol and ethyl acetate, and finally crystallize with methanol to obtain the target product.
  1. Counter-Current Extraction Method:
  2. Use counter-current extraction technology to prepare the astragalus extract. The extract is then subjected to high-speed centrifugation, with the supernatant collected and filtered through microfiltration and ultrafiltration membranes. The filtered liquid is further concentrated using nanofiltration membranes to obtain the enriched astragaloside IV. This method improves extraction efficiency and reduces costs compared to traditional methods, with continuous processing facilitating large-scale production.

Extraction Source

Astragaloside IV is extracted from the astragalus root (Astragalus membranaceus), also known as northern astragalus or huangqi, a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine. It is primarily produced in Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, and Heilongjiang in China. The root is harvested in spring and autumn, cleaned, dried, sliced, and used either raw or honey-roasted. Astragalus is a perennial herbaceous plant, 50-100 cm tall, with a thick, woody main root that often branches. The stem is upright, branching, and covered with white hairs. It has pinnate leaves with 13-27 leaflets, and the flowers are arranged in dense racemes. The plant blooms from June to August and bears fruit from July to September.
